Do you remember how people market their products and services in the 1920s, 1950s/60s, 1980s/90s and now? The 1920s was the period after World War 1 when industrialisation accelerated rapidly in Europe and America. This was also the period when modern marketing began to take shape and became more elaborate. With the proliferation of mass media tools such as the newspapers and radio, people started to realise the advantages of using such tools as a powerful method of propaganda capable of reaching large population masses in record times. In the 1950s/60s with the end of World War 2, the post war reconstruction efforts fuelled rapid economic developments across the entire globe. Inventions like the colour television revolutionized the then marketing landscape, as people realise the advantage of using motion pictures to influence consumers and generate demand. This led to the growth of television to become one of the leading marketing tools which existed until today. From the 1970s to the 1980s, although there had not been much significant developments of new marketing tools, the pursuit to refine existing marketing tools had never eased. With improvements being continuously made to strengthen the impact and marketing reach of the tools, TV commercials, print advertisements (newspapers, magazines, industry directories, brochures, namecards, etc) and outdoor advertisements (billboards, posters, etc) became increasingly sophisticated and more effective. Since the rise of the internet in the 1990s, new marketing tools have began to emerge in greater numbers as people start to introduce marketing innovations to this platform gradually. Websites and image adverts were the first forms of internet advertisements. The emergence of Overture (later acquired by Yahoo) and Google in the late 1990s/early 2000s brought search advertisements into prominence. As highly targeted text and image adverts are made possible with this new form of marketing, search advertisement has quickly evolved to become the fastest growing marketing tool in the world today. As new inventions will always be continuously made around the world, entrepreneurs will also be striving to develop the next leading marketing tool that leverages on the latest technological inventions. Biz Buzz hopes to introduce some of the most novel and effective marketing tools to our visitors, so as to help them stay at the forefront of competition. These tools could be one of the next big things in the making. |
